Masonic Trivia by Justin McDonald

We are all aware of the regular working tools of a Master Mason, but apparently the baseball bat and baseball glove are among the lesser known tools. The inaugural induction ceremony of the Baseball Hall of Fame took place 75 years ago, on June 12, 1939. Of the first 10 Hall of Famers attending the induction ceremony, 6 were Masons: Ty Cobb (Royston Lodge, GA); Cy Young (Mystic Tie Lodge, OH); Tris Speaker (Hubbard City Lodge, TX); Honus Wagner (Centennial Lodge, PA); Eddie Collins (Solomons Lodge, NY); and Grover Cleveland Alexander (St. Paul Lodge, NE).

In addition to these 6, there have been many other successful baseball players who were Masons. A few of the well known names include: Mickey Cochrane, Bob Feller, Jimmy Foxx, Frankie Frisch, Rogers Hornsby, Carl Hubbell, Christy Mathewson, Willie Mays, and Pie Traynor.
